I was just reading the history of the Hate Crimes legislation that this senseless brutal murder caused. It took a full decade to get passed. One of the delays was Duh'bya Bush who threatened to veto it. That seems to be the coldhearted Repugnicant mindset and fitting enuf in this time of election, the act was finally passed and President Obama signed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes law on October 28, 2009.

I don't think I ever saw a picture of Matthew, he was a beautiful young man. The horrors that happened to him were sickening. Here in Canada we already have laws pertaining to hate crimes, and hate speech.

Unfortunately, "hate speech" will always be a protected right in our country. We have that thing called the "First Amendment" which protects freedom of speech (even if it is hateful). It's a double edge sword!Suzi wrote:I don't think I ever saw a picture of Matthew, he was a beautiful young man. The horrors that happened to him were sickening. Re: Matthew Shepard Remembered
Your first amendment rights have been skewed by people who think they should be able to say what ever they like no matter. The first amendment guarantees your right to criticize your government,That was the original purpose of the right. There are in fact some things that you can say that will land you in prison, namely threats against your president, saying fire in a crowded room, saying there is a bomb on the plane..etc.captainbryce wrote:Unfortunately, "hate speech" will always be a protected right in our country.
