Time to revise the 10 Commandments? Empty Time to revise the 10 Commandments?

Post by Impact Mon Oct 04, 2010 9:07 pm

In as much that there are three versions of the Ten Commandments, Exodus 20 and 34, Deuteronomy 5, and in as much as the Protestant, Catholic, and Hebrew versions have differences, and in as much as nobody pays much attention to most of them anyway; Should we come up with a new version that would be more meaningful?

Do we really need to worry about graven images and coveting our neighbors goods or is it time for a rewrite?

Nah. I don't think that the Commandments need to be updated. Perhaps our behaviors have changed less than we think, and they are still pertinent to today's society.

Jesus did update them. when asked by the leaders of Israel which of the Commandments was the "greatest", he summed them up this way:

    1. Love the Lord, your God, with your whole soul, your whole heart, and your whole mind.

    2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

I do try to abide by the laws every day of my life. Not such an easy task, but I really try to follow them. It does add tremendous meaning to what I do during the day.

Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witnesses, these are laws in our justice system and have been for thousands of years, if the 10 Commandments were revised, doesn't that mean the laws involving these matters should be too?

I am sure people would love to revise the 10 Commandments, but that is not how it works. You don't tell God how things are gonna be, and if you don't believe the Ten Commandments are from God, why would you give a rat's piece of cheese what they say anyway? (People always wanna change Religious Doctrines of religions they are not a part of. Makes no sense)

Besides, "different versions of the ten commandments" is about as big a deception as you can get. Why do we have to change them anyway? So you can put other things before God? So you can kill? Steal? Sleep Around? Envy everybody else? Lie?

There is zero logic to changing the ten commandments.

Not only do I not give a rat's piece of cheese about the 10 Commandments, I wouldn't make a gift of an airbourne act of carnal knowledge about them either. I'm still not going to kill, steal, sleep around, envy anyone else or lie. Well that last one's a lie. I'd lie to spare someone's feelings.

Just because too many people don't follow them, or at best use them to guide their behavior doesn't mean we should toss them. I wonder how much better the world would be if we did pay attention to them. The differences are not so much differences as they are another interpretation.

This reminds me an episode of Glenn Beck at the beginning of the summer. *ducks back and waits for the ambush, then slowly crawls back out again* They were discussing the Founding Fathers and what they REALLY were: people say Benjamin Franklin was an atheist, they gather this from 6 letters he wrote out of 19,000, but he was what back then was called a deist but today they call agnostic, etc.

And they were talking about how until about 20 years ago, you were more likely to see the 10 Commandments in a government building than a church. And they also said that in the Founding Fathers' time, somebody, maybe it was Franklin, I don't remember, said the day they took God out of school was the day they spend all their time fighting crime in the school...and while we have separation of church and state (which they had 200 years ago too when everybody expressed their religious beliefs everywhere, but their separation of church and state was that there can be no one country religion, everybody is free to believe what they want to, and there can be the different state churches, BUT their idea fo separation of church and state was that the government could not force the public to follow a one-religion-order of sorts). And you think about it, it DOES seem like the timelines correlate...the schools become too busy and 'improved' and 'progressed' for God, we've got students blowing each other away, attacking teachers, making bombs, putting poison in their classmates' lunches in the cafeteria, and why? Because they're so much more advanced now without the 10 Commandments?

You know better than to mention that guy here. Pick any socialist or communist leader, but not the guy who shows his emotions. What's wrong with you? Wink

And you think having the presence of "God" and the ten commandments would've stopped violence in schools? LOL.
