A blessing because I would know how to relate to her, especially when she was being a pain in the ass, I would know where she's coming from, and be able to give her better answers than I was given whenever I complained about why did I have to do something.

It would actually be a bit of a combination but I would lean more toward blessing. I'm the opposite of everyone in my family & have been as long as I can remember. Intolerant fake religious bigots for the most part. So that would be a good thing. However being the most stubborn person I've ever known it would be trying at times. Once I've dug my heels in, three trucks & a team of horses are not pulling me out.

Closer to a curse. I always had a big heart but I wasn't always the most dedicated or responsible kid. Got bored easily and could be reckless.

A blessing. Just like today, I was the shit when I was a kid.

I think it is a mix. I could twist words something fierce as a kid, and I see that in my son now that he is getting older. But more good than bad, as he is caring and sensitive and inquisitive as I was as a kid.

It was nice to find that my youngest grandson as a teenager had the same interests and inquisitiveness that I did. We took a couple of trips around the country, visiting Washington DC, Chicago, St. Louis and New Orleans and for the most part got along well. He was into writing, loved military museums and all the Smithsonian places along the National Mall.
The joke is that he is a bit of a nerd like his Opa (even favors blue). The only genetic connection is that his grandmother had the same adventurous, romantic, poetic inclination and he must have gotten it from her.

He lives in the next county, but without a car we seldom see each other. Besides, he's 19, has a job and a G/F. Ya think he has time for Opa? Well, Shale, glad you chat on the phone. I am sure that he wishes he could see you more. I don't relate to my dad much, but he and my son are two peas in a pod. I think that they will keep tight even when my son is over 18, even if distance means that is more phone calls than visits.
