Just wondering how old you think a child (baby, toddler) should be before you cut their hair for the first time.

I don't think that there is a certain time...My twins are 21 months and have never had a haircut, my 3rd was over 2 when he had his cut, my 2nd had to get a hair cut when he was about 10 months old though because he had more hair. I started trimming my daughter's bangs when she was about 20 months old I believe but that was 9 years ago so I barely remember.

Now I'm curious though, why do you ask?

I don't think it's really "necessary" until they are about four years old.

It really depends on the child and how fast the hair is growing. I waited until my son was over two, (less his bangs) because he had the best curl in the back of his head.

My daughter didn't get a haircut until she was six, and convincing her mother to just trim it then was like pulling teeth. If I had a son, I'd probably cut his hair when he was about two.

For a boy? When you get tired of people telling you what a cute daughter you have. For a girl? When it becomes a maintenance issue.

My niece has 2 small boys and the little guy, she cut his hair when he was over a year old, it was getting too long and she gave him a little boy's haircut, he looked so darn cute!

I think it depends on the child's hair - how fast it grows, how easy it is to take care of. My niece was born with a full head of hair. She hasn't had a haircut yet - she's 11 months old - but my brother and sister-in-law are talking about getting it trimmed, as it's getting quite long.
