What's your opinion of Johnny Depp as an actor, and of his films. It's funny, because he could have very well been a Clooney or a Pitt, playing up that classic 'leading man' role, but he opted to take on characters that were/are quirky and abstract; totally contradicting the debonair romantic male.

Re: Johnny Depp
Johnny is a versatile actor, aside from the off the wall characters he plays so often he can pull it off in a leading man role. Don't know how the public would handle it, after all when you look at him you expect to see Edward Scissorhands but I think he can do it. Can't wait to see how he does in the leading role of Barnabas Collins in the Dark Shadows movie!

Re: Johnny Depp
I just did a poll about him in another forum! I think that he's an excellent actor and he plays interesting characters in interesting ways, but I don't always enjoy his choices.

Re: Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp's eccentric roles gives him credits and will allow his career to have a commercial shelf life that extends into his seventies. Brad Pitt and George Clooney by comparison are more likely to have an expiration date, once they move into later middle age. Even despite how Robert Redford is respected in Hollywood, many studios would hesitate to cast him in the romantic lead over a 30-40 actor.

Re: Johnny Depp
I think he's one of the bravest actors out there making some of the choices he has. One of the most talented too because he usually pulls it off.

Re: Johnny Depp
I feel like he's really similar to Daniel Day Lewis, except in the US at least he's also got the whole heart throb thing going on that Daniel Day Lewis doesn't have.

Re: Johnny Depp
I like his darker films but don't much care for the more cartoony roles, like Alice In Wonderland.

Re: Johnny Depp
Pretty much the only movie I ever saw him in that I thought he was REALLY great in was Nightmare on Elm Street.

Re: Johnny Depp
I'm not a huge fan of his to be honest. I don't dislike him as an actor, but his weird movies are never a "must see" for me.

Re: Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors. Even though he gets recognized for his work, I still think he's underrated. Like others have said, he's extremely versatile. I've enjoyed most of the movies that I've seen him in, and if one was bad....usually his performance was the only good thing about it.

Re: Johnny Depp
He's probably one of the most diverse actors I've ever seen - extremely talented and not at all afraid to just let it all go and get into a role. I doubt the Pirates movies would have made what they did if not for him. We might not even have had the sequels. One of my fav. movies of his is one in which he actually had a very small role, but I LOVED him in it - Chocolat. I loved that movie and thought JD did a great job as the traveling gypsy.
