I don't make New Years Resolutions but this is the closest to one that I'm getting...I want to figure out what makes me, Marrie, happy. Not Marrie the mom, Marrie the wife,but Marrie the independent human being.

The crazy thing is, I don't even really know where to start any more.
I feel like I AM happy, but my husband doesn't think I am. I always blame it on us having a different happiness quotient, like on a scale of 1 to 100 I'm programmed to stay around a 65, that's fine with me, but he's programmed to be a 90...If that makes any sense. I've decided that a 65 isn't good enough though, and I don't really do anything for myself to ensure my happiness...The problem is I don't even know where to start!

I'm happily married, happily a mom and those things do make me happy, but I feel like something is also missing, maybe.

Marrie, I wish I could help you. Do any of your kids have the book, The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein? What makes me happy is the love and companionship of a good woman (hope my wife never finds out!) a daughter who isn’t perfect but who we can still be proud of, their’s and my health, not being in debt up to our eyeballs and a job that I don’t dread getting out of bed each morning for.

TPP, your post was so real. I think you hit on something major...couples don't always have the same guage on "happy quotient."

That is most certainly our situation. I am happily unmarried and living with my 11 year old son's dad. I guess I always imagined us going our own way after he leaves home. We are crazy happy and are totally admired and recognized among our peers. But I just always imagine the boy's entry to college a parting of ways for baby daddy and I. He looks at it differently. He claims to be in it for the long haul, and maybe I am? I just know that all that will make me happy, to my fullest is living back in Chicago when my dad passes, and when I project that, he is not in my future with that. ??

But to answer your question, simply, of what makes me happy...that is easy...my son does. Each and every conversation with him is the bomb to me. We both ride moto bikes, so riding with him is huge. I think that the best conversations are had on the track on two wheels.

What makes me happy is a warm day, not too hot, sunshine, good health and riding my bike to places I like such as the Cineplex or nude beach or downtown to the used DVD store.

Having Raul or some other guy or girl come over for a few hours of intimacy - then kissing and leaving makes me happy. (Taking pics makes me more happy )

Getting away for a few days on a cruise ship and being at sea surrounded by blue makes me happy.

What makes me happy, hmm good question. I try my best to have a positive attitude all the time. I don't need a lot to make me happy I am a pretty simple guy and simple things make me happy. Buying myself the latest DVD or gadget makes me happy because I am doing that for me. Helping others makes me happy whether it just be advice or doing something that will help improve a bad or sad situation they may be in makes me happy. Donating toys to the children that are not fortunate makes me happy. Just seeing a child smile and the light in their eyes makes my heart swell and my eyes tear. Doing something nice for the elderly makes me happy, I have had a lot of elderly ladies give me a kiss on the cheek just for holding a door open for them, or helping them down the stairs or carry a package to their car, seeing their smile and hearing them tell me what a nice guy I am for helping them makes me feel so good inside that I, Tony made someone smile, even if it was for just a minute or 2.

My family makes me happy, lord knows we are one of the biggest dysfunctional families in the state of NY but I love them to death because when times are rough, we all stand by one another, something we learned from our dear Mama.

Red is right when it comes to couples, there are different degrees of happiness and what makes one happy to a certain level may be different than what makes the other feel their own level of happiness. I think that sometimes you just have to sit down and think about what it is that would make you happy and then just go for it instead of just wishing for it.

I thank God that I am here, healthy, don't need a lot of material things to make me happy. I am just good to myself, treat others with respect, share whatever I am able and that makes me very happy.

Seeing my family content. Watching my little girl grow up, and become more and more intellectual and independent (which also makes me kind of sad too); seeing my parents showing that they are proud of the man I continue to become; my older sisters respecting me to the point where they call for advice.

And, also, this forum. It's been almost a year that we've been up, and we're still going. This is probably the fourth or fifth message board that I've created, and none of the previous were active, and died a quick death. The fact that so many of you continue to come back daily makes me smile.

again for plucking me out of internet oblivion and planting me here!
Maybe we should have a board celebration when it comes to the 1 year
anniversary, we all get on at the same time and just fire away!!!

Thanks everyone! I've decided that it's not a "what makes me happy" issue that I'm having, it's a "I'm bored" experience that I'm having...I just am craving some new experiences!

My family makes me happy... most of the time - lol! My niece always makes me happy. She's almost a year old and totally adorable and she loves unconditionally. Even thinking about her brings a smile to my face.

Simple things can make my happy, too, like rainbows or pretty sunsets, the sun peaking through the clouds and sending down rays that. I saw a movie in which a little girl called them angel rays and have thought of them that way ever since.

Puppies and kitties make my happy. I have one friend who has these two crazy puppies that keep us in stitches whenever I'm over there because they're both nuts and then seeing them together is even funnier.
