Last week I think there was a thread about how hard or easy it is for you to apologize.

Let me go the opposite way and ask, do you easily accept apologies of people who have severely wronged you?

Would you accept someone's apology if you didn't indeed forgive them for what they did?

I accept their apology and try to be graceful about it. Whether I forgive them or not is more to do with me, once they've apologized I feel they've done their part and the rest is up to me. I have to decide if I have forgiven them or not.

It depends on what the misdeed was whether I forgive them easily or not, but I do always TRY to forgive. I give people a lot of chances, but eventually I'm finished with any real relationship if someone has hurt me TOO many times. I do forgive them, but I don't forget what happened enough for me to open that door again.

I wonder how I'll feel about that when I'm old and on my deathbed? If I'll regret it or not...

"I don't forgive, I don't forget, and I'm prone to growing moles, I can't help it, I'm an Italian."

Usually though if somebody DOES apologize I do tend to be forgiving, but I never forget.

If I think they're being sincere....rather than arbitrary....then I'll usually squash it if they apologize. If I think they're resisting the urge to roll their eyes as they say sorry then I'll roll mine at their insincerity.

I will usually forgive but if whatever they did to me was pretty bad I won't forget.

I try to forgive too & I can accept an apology if it appears sincere, but depending on what happened (or how often) it doesn't mean I have to continue to give them a place in my life. I've given thought to any possible regrets & can't say for sure until the time comes but I don't think I will. I believe it's ok for us to have boundaries that can't be crossed. No ongoing animosity, just that they don't have the right to be hurtful or disruptive especially if it's an ongoing occurrence.

It all depends on what they did, how they did it, and how genuine they sound with their remorse. I can spot falsity from around the corner, so if their reasons for apologizing are anything other than real, I'll know and won't humor them. If they are sincere, then I may not forgive them all at once, but their effort will create a thaw.

I don't like being angry, so unless it was an egregious error on their part, I'm quick to accept an apology and move on.
