How many times have you fainted in your life?

Hi all,

I think most all of us have fainted at some point in our lives. I've fainted twice, one of the times being right after I had my ears pierced (I heard later that piercings can affect the blood sugar level and can cause a person to faint.) I had gone to a mall and pierced my ears. My Mom, thinking the fresh air would do me some good, took me down the escalator and I was told I fainted and that the woman behind us helped support me until we got to the main floor.

How about you - how many times have you fainted in your life? And what caused it?

I have never fainted in my life, I thought that was more of an old wives tale.

It isn't an old or even new wives tale. Mandy, it sounds like you experienced vasovagal syncope, aka fainting at the sight of blood. It's a condition present in about 15% of the population. It could affect you even if you didn't actually see any blood. It's an evolutionary fear reflex that causes a sudden drop in blood pressure so that the brain is temporarily deprived of oxygen with predictable results.

When I was about 11 or 12 I had given my seat to someone at Mass (back when I still had religion). It was really warm in there and I was still wearing my coat plus I was on an empty stomach. About all I remembered was everything started getting dark. Next thing I knew I was sitting in another part of the church. Some man sitting near me saw me start to go down and got me before I hit the floor. Or at least on the first bounce.

I've "felt" faint. But never gone completely out.

Once after smoking weed (like 3 bowls of the stuff) I stood up and passed out on the floor. Was out for about 10-15 seconds before the slaps on my friends hands on my face woke me back up.

i've fainted once, and it was caused by me.

in junior high, a friend of mine wanted to try to make me faint by me, folding my arms across my chest, me breathe in heavy, then him pushin my folded hands into my chest.. i didnt think it would really work, but it did! i scared the hell out of my friend he said, cuz at first he thought i faked it, but then i just bam hit the floor, he said i was out for about 30 secs. he said i had started shaking. from what i remember from being out, was i was in this rollercoaster, kept going up and up, right when i reached the top and about to go down is when i woke up. i was like holy shit!! that was crazy... i have never done that since.. also couple years later i heard kids were actually dying from pulling that stunt
