I don't think it should be required by all because no matter how old you get or the kid gets, you never stop being their parent, as long as their mother is alive, that old woman is always going to be their Mom.

Makes me feel old to be referred to as 'Ms.' by kids. They can call me by my first name.

I personally haven't crossed that bridge of wanting to be properly referred to by children but for the most part I do think kids should have permission from adults to call them by their first name.

I would be ok with children who are non-relatives or children of friends, calling me by my first name. Growing up many people that were friends of my parents and my friends' parents always told me to call them by their first names.

I have friends whose kids call my by my first name but put Miss first. I think it's cute when they do, but I don't mind when they call me by my first name if they are a friend's kids and I've given them permission. Most of my friends' kids put Miss first - the young ones, anyway.
