I honestly think one is as bad as the other. Words & certain behaviors can hit harder than a fist sometimes.

I'm going to give the edge to physical. Mental abuse is certainly cruel and can lead to deep emotional scars that could eventually manifest in self destruction but usually doesn't involve a trip to the emergency room. Physical abuse can kill on the spot. Plus, I think physical abuse includes a certain degree of emotional abuse as well.

But mental abuse can last long after the abuser is dead and gone.

I'm not saying emotional abuse isn't terrible and between having someone beat you up once and having someone make your life a living hell with their words for years...then I'll say the latter is worse. Emotional abuse can leave emotional scars. Physical abuse can leave physical and emotional scars.

Emotional abuse can lead to self-harm and self-scarring. I'd say they're pretty on-par.

Both are bad. Physical abuse still leaves lots of emotional scars even after the bruises have faded.

Physical; simply because someone who is being dealt physical abuse is being simultaneously emotionally abused as well. What I'm trying to say is that someone can't be beat up for an extended period of time without it also taking a mental toll on them as well.

Well, it kind of makes the thread moot. Physical (which is emotional) vs emotional = redundant.
