Weeeeeeeird, that's about all I can say. Oh, and that woman is pathetic. Of course the events listed don't say much about her students either, they seem like a whole miserable bunch to me.

Yeah, there's a lot going on here. I'm not exactly sympathetic towards this mother of three whose husband is overseas but facing 10 years for having consential sex with 5 18 year olds? Nah.

I agree that this is an ethical offense, not a criminal one.

But that's the state she lives in. She knew that. If she doesn't like that rule, then leave. She should be prosecuted for breaking the law.

Crazy....she had sex with 18 year olds. Just fire her, put the reason why on her public record, and take away her teaching license.

My guess is that she'll receive probation, a hefty fine and not be allowed to teach again.

I agree with Rockbird. I fully support this law in place. It has to do with her position in their lives prior to their 18th birthdays.

Let's say I have a 15 year old daughter and hire "Bill" to be her personal skating coach because she is very talented and reached the level that we want her to have a private coach. Bill has sexual thoughts about her, unknown to us, and he acts upon them on her 18th birthday. That is totally legal sex, but entirely wrong. I think the same thing goes for a teacher, and those laws need to be in place to protect students. Not that I am saying a gun was held to any of these 18 year old's heads...but still, it is a similar thing.

While it slightly does conflict with my liberal opinions and beliefs, I do think that it's very wrong for a teacher to cross that line. Not because it might damage that student forever, but because it's not fair to anybody involved: the teacher, the student or the classmates.
