Criminals In Your Neighborhood Empty
PostSubject: Criminals In Your Neighborhood   Criminals In Your Neighborhood EmptyTue May 31, 2011 1:42 pm

Here's an interesting topic of discussion from my former forum--Criminals living in your neighborhood.

Someone emailed me this website once, and if you type your address in the top box, the map will populate with red balloons, which when moused-over, will give the name and crime of a convicted felon who may be living in your immediate area: http://www.felonspy.com/search.html

I don't know how valid that site is, because if you refresh it, the balloons seem to redistribute, and sometimes it shows one out in the woods, but it does bring up an interesting topic--what would you do, and how would you feel if known felons were living in your neighborhood, or right next door? Thoughts on that topic?

I checked that out a long time ago. I have mixed feelings about it. My mixed feelings came from the fact that the few in my area were of men in their late 60's to 70's. I am not sure they deserve to have that info accessed with a couple clicks of the mouse.

It should be public, but people should have to either pay for it or head to the court house for it.

Very interesting a site. It lists a guy who was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse living around the corner from me.

According to the site we have 4 in the vicinity, 1 for gang assualt, 1 for rape, and 2 for sexual conduct with children. But it looks like they're clear over on the other side so it doesn't look like a problem for us.

And we have had criminals living on the block, nobody did anything because they were too young or they had connections or something, eventually they've moved out or on and some later died so they're not a threat to anyone else. We never had anyone particularly violent though, vandalism, drugs, that kind of stuff.

it's only for the US, so I was out of luck.

For me, it would depend on what crime they'd committed and if they were still considered a danger to the public. If it was a sex offender, I wouldn't be very happy, nor if it was someone with a violent history.

Does Canada have a national sex registry like ours in the U.S.?

Well in general, you shouldn't assume everybody who lives around you is like you anyway. I'm not surprised that I have people living around me who are felons. They have to live somewhere right? I just keep my distance, my wits and go about my business.

Anyone, (like me) who lives in a large metropolitan neighborhood just assumes that criminals live all around them. I don't have to go to a site, because everyone moves in and out so often in these apt complexes.

I go by how often I see the blue lights flashing in the neighborhood as an indicator of problems. Ppl who aren't on the list yet can become criminals in an instant, like the guy just one block from here who got pissed because a party kept him up all night. He got his gun, went next door and blew away a couple of partiers. Guess he is still sleeping in prison.

Just a reminder to be courteous and civil to the neighbors you don't know - and don't think everyone will just suffer thru a sleepless night because of your rudeness.
