If you notice something is past the expiration date, do you still eat/drink it if it seems okay or do you immediately throw it out?

Do you eat food after the 'use-by' date?

Depends on what it is. If it still looks and smells good, I'd eat it.

Nope it goes in the garbage. I have a friend that will eat meat weeks after expiration it makes me sick to watch.

Milk is the only thing I dare to do that with. If after giving it a whiff and little taste it seems fine, then I'll go ahead and drink. Any other perishable foods (cheese, meats, etc.) I throw out immediately.

Not food from the deli but if it's in a factory package i may risk it. It's also a coin toss for over the counter medicine.

I try to consume all foods before the expiration date. If it has just gone over it depends on the appearance/smell/taste as to whether I eat it.

It depends on how far past it it is, and the smell. If it smells alright and is less than a week past the expiration date, then there's nothing wrong with it usually.

Well, milk is usually good after the date on it because that is the sell by date, and not the official expiration. So, I will use that two days after the sell by date. Anything else gets tossed.

Hardly ever. I just throw it away. Even if it's not rotted, chances are it has less kick.

Depends on what it is. Meat or dairy (except milk which is fine a few days beyond) no way. But other than that it depends on the smell first & then taste.

If it's only a few days passed the expiration date, it's usually still good, but anything past that gets thrown out.

It depends on what it is. If it's fresh food - meat or something like that - then no - I just throw it out. If it's something like milk or yogurt, I'll go a few days past the expiry date, maybe more, if it smells fine.

Dry foods like cereals should be very safe after expiration. I don't go by dates ~ I go by nose and eyes. And if something smells even a little funny, I toss it.
