Do you think restroom attendants are necessary? Not talking about making sure the soap container is stocked, but rather those people who squeeze it (the soap container, I mean) for you, and hand you a towel.

I have no idea what function they serve other than to solicit gratuities for standing in a public toilet all day. I've only encountered them in upscale johns.

If I ever found one of those folks, I'd definitely be uncomfortable.

I only heard about them but never saw one. They can pay people to hang out in restrooms all day if they want, but they won't get a tip from me!

I'd get a film crew in there and interview the person in a mock-serious manner. Ask if they have a written job description they could share, do they offer assistance with ass-wiping and/or diaper changing, or just handing off towels. What other types of jobs have they held? Do they consider their job more or less useless than that of a toll-taker on the highways? Are they trained in CPR if needed? Is there some sort of course and certification exam needed to perfom their job?

Good Point. Stimulating the vagus nerve in the rectum could cause a heart attack. Altho it is such an undignified position to be in some ppl may just want to die.

I see them all the time whenever I go to weddings and restaurants in upscale places. To me its rather annoying to have this guy standing there looking at you while you whip it out and then have to hand you a paper towel after you wash your hands. Then you have to tip them for having them look at your winkie dink and handing you a paper towel. Makes sense huh?

Actually I think it would be hilarious to take the Monty Python approach and ask the attendant to supervise and watch while you use the wall-pot to make sure you're doing it correctly!

Ran into them all over the place when I lived in Germany. They were unbearably awkward.

They are as pointless as elevator operators.
