Who DOESN'T believe in "UNCONDITIONAL" love?

My mother informed me yesterday that she does not believe in it and said that anyone who does is kidding themselves or blowing hot air. So I ask her if this means she doesn't love ME unconditionally and she says that as my mother her heart is big enough to accept more of my flaws than she would anybody elses, but even that has a breaking point.

I;m still shocked and not knowing quite how to take that.

I think people confuse unconditional love with unconditional acceptance. Love and acceptance are not the same thing and IMO, the person who accepts me unconditionally doesn't really love me. That'd mean that they'd accept me even if I was being consumed by self-destruction. That isn't love. IMO, unconditional love means loving somebody no matter what. But you can love somebody and still not accept all of their choices. Heck, that sometimes is PROOF that you TRULY love them, being willing to tell them stuff they don't want to hear and refrain from supporting dangerous choices.

Often, those who feel that they have not been loved unconditionally because they have not been accepted unconditionally are the ones who have the conditional love.

My mother believes in it, that no matter HOW bad her kids could act, she as their mother would still love them...me, I don't know, I can see myself standing by my kids when they screw up severely but I guess it's to what extent they screw up and how. But I don't suppose any parent who has any heart at all could ever just stop loving their kids, I think it's more the darker emotions would reign supreme over the love to the point they couldn't feel it anymore or something of that sort, but I don't think it ever fully leaves them, no matter what their kids do.

I believe in unconditional love, but not unconditional acceptance. I can love someone without liking or agreeing with something they do.
