There are very few mom and pop stores around these days, especially in Manhattan. We have a chain of everything practically on every corner.

Do you shop in mom and pop stores for appliances, clothes and health and beauty stuff? I never do and probably haven't since the late 70's or early 80's.

    No. I go to Wal-Mart!

Four times now I've had to go to WalMart for something that I couldn't find anywhere else and they had it. So, for me, it isn't so much about the prices as it is availability. So, hell, yes, I'll shop there.

Then I went there a couple of weekends ago to grocery shop and compare their prices and stock to other stores, but it didn't win my heart. They're pretty good but Winco (an Idaho based chain in this region) is still better overall.

I liked walmart before they remodled the ones around here to give them the bling factor to compete with Target. Now there's less stock to make way for the glamorous displays. It was better with the grungy old store where you had to dig to find what you wanted.
