You can only hope you dont have to go through the same turmoils as everyone else.
I agree with everything you said (regarding the "selfish" bit). You're right, it is not selfish to wish for good health. But my point is it is also not "practical" to wish for such a thing. "Wishing" for anything is not practical because wishing accomplishes nothing on its own (unless you believe in luck, which I don't). It takes action, committment and opertunities to make positive changes happen. "Doing things" that are likely to help you in the future is practical (ie: working out and eating healthy to maintain or achieve good health). An obese person can "wish" he was not obese all day long, but unless he gets off his fat ass and puts down the cheeseburger, his wish will not come true. That's what I mean about wishing not being practical.

I think some of the folks on here need to look up the definition of the word practical because wishing is actually the antethesis of that word.

There are plenty of people who do things to avoid the opposite of what they're trying to accomplish and what they try to avoid happens anyway. So yeah....a little good luck or wishing for it is practical enough if good fortune is in the cards for you. I totally believe in luck.

You knew what I meant and you're trying to be technical with it. I'm not trying to say wishing alone is the cure all. But doesn't hurt.

I would wish that I had supernatural powers like....freezing things, teleportation, telepathy as well as the ability to cast spells. All this without the responsibility of evil forces or someone who wants to kill me or someone who wants to research my abilities Razz

    Yeah, that sounds like fun.

I didn't know what you meant until just now (you believe in luck). I guess that's where the fundamental difference in our philosophy lies then. I believe that wishing neither hurts, NOR helps. I don't know, it's kind of like believing in magic to me. "If I just WILL it to happen, then my lottery number will eventually be the jackpot and I won't be poor anymore". To me that's completely illogical and counterproductive because it takes focus away from what could realistically help you in that situation (ie: getting a job).

Yes, if a person happens to hit the gazillion dollar jackpot, then they could be said to be "lucky". But them wishing for a gazillion dollars had no bearing on them hitting the jackpot or not. It was the mere act of buying the lottery ticket combined with random chance that won them the jackpot. In other words, there are plenty of people out there who wish for good things to happen and end up very fortunate throughout life. But there are also plenty of people out there who likewise spend all their time "wishing" for good things to happen, only to get shit on their whole lives. The "wishing" had zero impact on either outcome.
