I'd like to think I'd at least notify authorities (rather than risk a scene), but I am always braver in my ideal behavior than in my actual behavior.

I'd pull the kid aside and let him or her know that what this adult was doing is wrong, and that they shouldn't take them up on it.

Maybe. I would probably be more inclined to make a scene if it looked like the adult was sexually harassing the child. Otherwise I would do what Cateyes suggested, about pulling the child aside and advising them to not play into the adults hands.

Like others have said, I would probably pull the child aside. It really would depend on the content of what he was saying.
