I could blame my father for a hundred things but you know what? That is in the past now, I am a grown man with my own mind and I make my own decisions so if I fuck up, its my own fault now. Parents can leave scars that can last but its up to you to get over them and just move on.

Oh, there were SO MANY things wrong while I was growing up. Making a different life for myself has been an ongoing effort since leaving home, and is still a painful process.
It definitely had the most to do with why I don't trust people, and why I'm not family-oriented. I'm very detached and do not get close to family, which has been a real major adjustment for all my in-laws. But they learned to deal with it and most of them like me, if from a distance.

Looking back, my parents didn't always make what I would consider to be the best decision in every circumstance, but there comes a time when you have to stop blaming your parents for everything wrong in your life--you control your own destiny,learn from their mistakes, and make yourself a better person because of it.

I don't think I was harmed by my parents. My biological dad was kinda strict and I was afraid of him as a child - but that is how we were raised back then. My stepfather encouraged a lot of my nerdy ways and he probably influenced a lot of my fiscal responsibiliy.
