I lived in the 'burbs as a kid and they would come around - and we would get rid of them saying our parents weren't home or couldn't come to the door.
Then I end up trying it as my first job in New Orleans. They took us to a 'burb and dropped us off to sell encyclopedias. I knew the drill of getting rid of myself so it was self-defeating. Made no sales in the three days of participating in that charade. Quit that and went to work as a security guard.
