They have open town council meetings. Back when the power was out, they held meetings in a couple of locations so people could try to get some information. But like in a Simpsons episode? Nah.

I don't. But they put them on the public access television station so I will watch them after the fact if there is a hot issue going on.

I have attended city commission meetings on Miami Beach when an issue was up that I was interested in. Got to watch the bunch of crooks pushing thru a special interest (for them) until one of the old family members told them flat out he would sue and their project would be in litigation for all our lifetimes. Loved it, since he preserved a public space that his family had donated and the crooks (that is literal - within a year the mayor was in jail) backed off on their landgrab proposal.
In Gainesville I actually addressed the city commission on an issue, but there were so many I was involved with I can't remember which it was.

I don't attend either simply because I feel no matter what my opinion is, they are going to do whatever the hell they want to anyway.

They do have monthly gatherings at city hall, but I haven't been to any of them. Perhaps one day, but so far I haven't been especially interested.

they have them every month ... at night so of course i cant go---which sucks cause they get really heated! My mom and I used to go just to see the drama.. better than TV.
One year a new development went up and the township code enforcement agent was taking bribes to approve stuff that shouldnt have been. Ppl paid $350,000 for houses, had big christmas parties, and when they flushed the toilets that night, the entire place's sewage system backed up in every house! in the same development, they did not put enough storm drains, and during a horrible storm the streets flooded and you could see mercedes floating down the street!
THAT was an awesome meeting to go to... the ppl had pitch forks ready to attack!
