Shame, OLTL was on an upswing a few years ago and TIIC wasted it.

Maybe with the new assistant head writer coming aboard the ratings will improve.

I'm not surprised. Fans are fed up and tuning out. They're sick of seeing heir favs trashed and those who quit over a particular storyline aren't coming back after that storyline is over.

What they need to do is go back and pull some of the old tapes and watch the way soaps used to be written when we couldn't wait to rush home from work and watch the soaps we taped for that day. That is when soaps were really good. Now you don't care if you miss it or not. They write for themselves and they have their favs that they write for trying to make them heros. What is needed is for them to get a clue and listen to the people that actually watch the show.

Hmmm... actually OLTL ratings were far worse in June, hitting 1.6 with Starr's One Life to Live on every freaking day. That's when OLTL hit record low.

July's average was up over June and July actually had 2 very big spikes and averaged better numbers.

Too soon in August to judge it's final averages but August tends to be a very low ratings month for soaps.

I'd be more concerned about AMC's demos, no matter what they do, they can't seem to spike those out of 6th place. Ouch. They were hoping Zendall would help their sagging demos, we'll see.

As for GH, ABC spent a fortune on Brenda promotion and pre-empting BOTH AMC and OLTL for the marathon badly hurt their Wed and Thurs numbers.

I expect OLTL bounced back last week in ratings, as it's been a rollercoaster ride all summer, one week down NEXT up.

Um, no I didn't defend the writing nor the stories.

I just stated as bad as you think last week ratings were, June was far worse for the show.

ATWT's problem was the same as GL, its demo skewed too old.

Scary AMC key demos fell so low this summer at one point they were barely above ATWT. AMC has bled younger viewers at alarming rate this year.

Oh gosh - I remember those days but they were year ago, back when AW was still on. There were days I'd race home to watch GH, but in the last few years before I quit, it was so horrible I refused to watch live and would only tape it, so I could FF Sonny and Jason's storylines. AMC was decent, but I didn't really race home to watch. The propping of the favs of TPTB has been the biggest detriment to the ABC soaps. No wonder ratings are so poor.

Not surprising that group would be excited. They've got to be one of the worst fanbases I've ever come across. at least they're not bringing what's her name from GL over - the one who got the show cancelled... shoot - she used to play Vicky on AW - Ellen Wheeler? Was that her name?

I'm used to it. Once upon a time near bottom ratings freaked me out (Another World, Passions and Port Charles were canceled with much stronger numbers), but it's par for the course now.

The only saving grace is that it does better than AMC in the important 18-49 category.

Yeah - lower ratings really are. Back when I watched GH, the show was averaging about 3.5 or so. GH made a bunch of stupid decisions and gave more and more control over to Maurice and Steve, who were openly admitting that they'd sabotage scenes that weren't written the way they wanted them, and it became the Sonny & Jason show. The last year I watched, it was pretty bad but the best part was when GH what was then a new lot the very week after my fav. actor left. GH dropped from 3.4 to 2.9, and that was the lowest they'd had to date. GH never really recovered - they'd let Chad Brannon, Billy warlock, Tamara Braun go, and those three took a LOT of fans with them, because GH really trashed AJ and Zander before writing them off. Iknow they say that one actor doesn't make a difference, but nothing on the show really change all that much, and the other character were getting big storylines, the week after Chad left. He was the show's second most popular actor and there were a whole group of us who quit GH after his last show.

Anyway - I'm feeling the same way about OLTL that I did before I quit GH and AMC - I watch only for Todd, Dani and James now and don't have a lot of interest in the other characters.
