Serial Killer on Long Island

BABYLON, N.Y. — Investigators are
considering the possibility that a serial killer may have dumped four
bodies along the same quarter-mile stretch of beachside road, a police
official said Tuesday.


Police looking for a missing prostitute on Long Island's Fire Island
have found four badly decomposed bodies near Cedar Beach since Saturday.
All four were found only feet from the roadway, and it appears each had
been thrown from a vehicle, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard
Dormer said.he beach is about three miles from where the missing woman was headed
when she disappeared May 1, but Dormer said there is no indication yet
that hers was one of the four bodies.
Forensic experts have determined that at least two of the four bodies
are female, but identifying them could take weeks, Dormer said. Experts
were taking DNA samples and examining dental records.
"We're looking at that — that we could have a serial killer," Dormer said in response to a reporter's question.
Dormer said the four appeared to have been killed elsewhere and then
brought to the site, a wind-swept strip of land less than 1,000 yards
wide that divides the Great South Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. The
roadway connects the landmark Jones Beach State Park with several state
and town-run beaches to its east, including Cedar Beach.
The remains were badly decomposed, but appeared to have been dumped over an 18-month period, Dormer said.
The first set of remains were found Saturday as police were following
up on a missing-person report. The three other bodies were found
Monday.
Dormer said police had been looking for 24-year-old Shonnan Gilbert,
of Jersey City, N.J. He said Gilbert worked as a prostitute and arranged
through Craigslist to meet a client on Fire Island.
Police officers returned to the scene Tuesday with a cadaver dog,
searching the area for additional bodies. Despite a howling wind,
temperatures in the low 20s and a coating of snow on the ground, Dormer
said the dog, a black Labrador, would still be able to do its work. He
said the search of the vast, remote area could take days or longer.

Ah gotcha. PA has the confirmed serial killer.

AND, investigators are drawing similarities in these four killings AND four women who were found ditched in a sewage drain four years ago in Atlantic City, which was never solved, and somebody said there's only about 200 miles distance between the first batch of murdered women and the second, so this all should tell the police something.

I actually saw those Atlantic City killings on Forensic Files one night, good comparison Supernova you should be a detective!!

Scary! I remember how apprehensive I was when a body was discovered along one of my fav. jogging routes. Police were sure it was a targeted hit, but it was months before I felt comfortable enough to go back out on the route and it wasn't until the killers were caught that I felt better about being out there, though i still wouldn't go in the dark.

Hope they catch the person soon!

Last I heard they identified one of the girls found, a prostitute from Boston I think but no, they have not caught the guy yet.

A New York Serial Killer? Eight Bodies Have Been Found on Long Island Shore

Something slightly terrifying is happening along Ocean Parkway and
Gilgo Beach on Long Island, where the remains of eight different people
have been found since December. The search started when Shannan Gilbert,
a 24-year-old woman from New Jersey and a prostitute, went missing four
months ago, but since December none of the dead bodies have been hers.
Instead, four female prostitutes and four "unidentified people," have
been found, according to the New York Times, "heightening residents' fears that a serial killer is in their midst" and ramping up the investigation.
The latest bodies were found Monday -- three, to be exact --
following one last Tuesday and four in late 2010. Gilbert has not been
found, but her mother remains hopeful. ""If it wasn't for my daughter,
these bodies never would have been found," she said. "Everyone has their
destiny, maybe this was hers. I'm still hoping she comes home."

But the quantity and stories surrounding the community points to only
one thing, like the description of the last time Gilbert was seen:

Ms. Gilbert had been visiting a seaside home in the Oak
Beach area in the early morning hours of May 1. Gus Coletti, 76, was one
of the last people to see her alive. He was at home, shaving, shortly
before 5 a.m.

"I hear somebody screaming and bang-bang on the door," he said. "I
opened the door, and she stood right there. I said, 'What's the matter?'
And she kept saying 'Help me.' "

When he dialed 911, she ran. "She took off, and that was the last I saw her," he said.

This would be the third set of prostitute serial murders in Long
Island in the last 20 years. Police have a seven-mile search area being
combed by investigators, but no real leads.

And this guy is probably going to go down in uncaptured, unidentified history right along with Jack the Ripper and the Zodiac Killer.

I have a feeling he is going to slip up. Suffolk County Police are pretty shrewd I hope they nail this guy soon.

I heard this on the news last evening and remembered Tony(?) posted something about it last year.

Wow, that is terrible. I hope he does slip up. Why do people do such horrid things?

I hope they get him soon, too. Google Pickton and you'll see of a Canadian case in which a guy managed to kill over 20 women before finally getting caught. It went on for YEARS because his victims were drug users and prostitutes. I hope they catch this guy long before that. Scary!!

That's Suffolk County. I live near Nassau County so I'm not that close as to where I feel extreme alarm.

I just read that 2 more bodies were found yesterday further west from his target area. They are not sure at this time if the murders are linked because one body appears to be that of a toddler.
