How often did you openly defy your parents wishes or commands when you were growing up, and even into adulthood? Was this something that you'd commonly, sometimes, rarely, or never do?

Minor things; I was only human. Tried to keep to the core of them though.

Quite a bit since I was 10, but like FM said very minor stuff, mainly just talking back.

Re: Defying your parents
Never really did it. There wasn't anything to 'defy' anyway.

I toed the line pretty much when I was under their roof. If I didn't there were consequences. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. After that? There were a couple of times I had to diverge from what they wanted.

Same. There was the occasional power struggle and act of defiance, but my parents weren't tyrannical enough for it to be an ongoing theme.

Re: Defying your parents
I was an ADD child and a handful in school and at home. Very mouthy and a source of immense frustration for my mother. But I still towed the line because I had some measure of fear for consequences. I didn't do drugs, sneak out the window, or get myself pregnant like so many girls did. In comparison to today's standards, I was still a damn good kid.

Re: Defying your parents
Not very often. My parents were pretty reasonable and my brother and I were pretty good kids growing up, so there wasn't really a need. Actually, only time I can really remember it was when we had very bossy neighbourhood children who would try and get us to play one parent off the other. I guess they did it all the time - a brother/sister pair who were the same ages as my brother and I. We asked me Mom if we could do something and she said no and they pretty much forced us to ask our Dad - kept badgering us until we did, even though we didn't want to. These two had everything they wanted materialistically and were pretty spoiled. I think my brother and I eventually gave in to asking my Dad mainly because the two of them wouldn't shut up about it and kept badgering us to ask my Dad.
for the most part, though, neither of us really had a reason to defy our parents.
