    How old were you when you first started learning the basics of how to cook?

    I was 9 when I started making basic stuff like grilled cheese sandwiches and mashed potatoes and poached eggs.

    I don't get on TV shows you have like 10 year olds and 12 year olds and the parents telling them not to use the stove, why? I never got that, it's not like we ever almost burnt the house down because of a cooking mishap, we knew what we were doing. But it seems like in TV shows the parents just assume the kids cannot be responsible, (who remembers Darlene on Roseanne trying to cook Jiffypop popcorn on a heating pad?) and given I was younger when I first started cooking than all the kids used as these examples in sitcoms, I never got it.

    I knew eleven year olds who will outcook an adult. How old were you when you first learned to cook? 2517814472 Depends on the kid. I was using a knife at 6.

    Im 37 and still cant cook. I once microwaved potatoes au gratin and they came out like burnt potato chips! lol But I honestly think i was a teenager when i started using the oven

    same here.. kraft mac and cheee, ramen noodles, i knew how to make scrambled eggs, bacon, french toast. simple things.

    I was in my teens when I learned the basics in home ec. I only really learned how to cook after age 24.

    6 or 7 - my Dad taught me to make oatmeal. Smile My Mom would often have us helping in the kitchen
