Were any of your great grandparents alive during your lifetime? If so, did you ever know them?

Yep. My great grandma passed only two years ago. My great grandfather passesd when I was 16.......but I never knew him when he was 'sane'. He got Alzheimer's right around the time I was born.

Both of them were my father's grandparents. My mother's grandmother passed when I was three.....never knew her.

My great-grandfather died in 1969 when I was two years old, so I don't really remember him. His wife, my great-grandmother, I had until I was 17. She lived in the same elderly building my grandmother does now, which was close to where I was living at the time. I used to go visit her 3-4 days a week after school, play Pokeno with her and her live-in boyfriend (yes, that's true! LOL) and watch candlepin bowling on TV.
I called her "Mummu" which is the Finnish word for "grandmother", since we had to distinguish the generations. As I got a little older, Mummu developed diabetes, so on my afternoon visits, I'd cook her a diabetic-safe dinner and learned how to give her insulin shots. She died of a stroke during my senior year in high school, but I'm glad I had her as long as I did.
Now, we still have 4 generations going, with my Grandmother being Great-Gram.

Nope. My mothers grandmother died 2 years before I was born (and I'm not sure if they ever knew my great grandfather). My fathers grandmother died when I was 6, but they lived down south so I never knew them.

I knew my great grandfather and great grandmother on my mother's side. My great grandmother died not that long ago when I was in my late 30's.
