All employers look up credit history; do you think that it's in an employers best interest to hesitate on hiring someone with lousy credit?

Should credit score be a determining factor in being hired for a job?

Absolutely not. Credit score has nothing to do with job performance. How people spend their money isnt any of their business. It's just another way to invade people privacy.

No because of this economy so many people have lost and its totally not their fault. My friends in California lost a beautiful Condo and it wasn't because they didn't want to work it was because they could not find work and could not make the mortgage payments. As a result their credit score is now low for something they had no control over.

Absolutely not & it pisses me off some do this. That has nothing to do with their ability to do the job. The irony is some people have had their score plummet because they don't have a job. Without a job you can't pay your bills. Not if you're an honest person. It's an unfair thing to do to people. Criminal history, I understand. But to check someone's credit for a job is just bullshit & unfair. It should be illegal.

That's so messed up. It's happening to a lot of people these days & probably will for a while the way things are looking.

No. It's very intrusive and borderline unethical to be able to pry into someone's credit score/background. There are things that effect credit scores that don't necessarily have anything to do with work ethic. Having a bad score could be a myriad of different situations, especially in this economy.
