Yep. I remember getting a 56k modem and thinking wow how fast this is!!!!! AOL Got the boot from me after I realized I could do things independently and I signed on with another IP.
When we first got AOL in 1996, I remember it would sometimes take over thirty minutes to get a dial-up connection because the line was habitually busy. That use to frustrate the hell out of me.
Not too much, My mom didn't get internet til i think it was 2001 or something, yes it did make that sound. It was after I had moved out. I'd get on every now and then, when I came to visit, but I was clueless (Sorta still am) about the internet and never knew where to go once I got on. I was like okay..."what do I do now". I think I just checked weather and horoscopes. There was really no reason for me to get on the internet.
I remember MTV used to have this show called "YAK" where they would play videos while showing comments from the AOL chatroom on the TV. We had dial-up AOL for a little while but then switched to cable Roadrunner and that was perfect.
