Do you predict that, after eight years of Obama in the white house, the mood of the country will swing right in 2016 and become more politically/socially conservative (with a Republican taking office after him); or do you think that the liberalism will continue to gain momentum to the point where another Democrat would have a good shot of seceding him?

It all depends how the next 4 years play out with the short attention span of the fickle electorate in this country. I hope that in 2 years ppl remember the T-party mess with their unbending conservative mandate and get rid of the Repugnicants who are gambling with our economy just to obstruct anything the Prez puts out there.

Chris, I love you man but you just seem to have a blind spot for the words "suceed" and "secede". I'm only laughing because of the context.
Anyway. Almost anything is possible. The Republicans had an ass whipping in '08 but made a strong comeback in '10. If the economy is stronger and more people are working I think there's an excellent chance that we could have our first female POTUS. Otherwise, I take nothing for granted. Especially with Republican efforts on the state level through redistricting.

I think we're just going to have to sit back a couple years & see. It's just as likely to swing the other way & put dems in control. A poll was recently taken that showed Mitch McConnell only 4 points ahead of Ashley Judd (yes THAT Ashley Judd) & she isn't even running. Yet

I just posed the same question not to long ago...
The way I figured it, Obama's reelection was in the bag once the Republican primaries started and it became clear they were a mixed bag of chickens with their heads cut off. As a whole, the party appeared to have no real plan other than get Obama out of office, no matter how much foolishness and fuckery was involved (i.e. Santorum...wtf was that??) Other than people who vote straight Republican no matter who's on the ballot, I think that made a lot of folks look at the party even more sideways than what they already do--it's bad enough some party members blatantly disrespect the POTUS, but it's even worse that they didn't even BOTHER to put their best foot forward!
So moving forward, I'm thinking if the Republicans can convince somebody to run that the country as a whole respects, they have a good shot. Because it doesn't seem like the issue is "conservatism vs. liberalism" as much as it is having a leader that's likeable, relatable, and can actually REMEMBER what he/she just told us a few days ago.
But if nothing changes, 2016 could very well be a repeat of 2012. But people are so fickle when it comes to politics, anyway. Hell, I might vote Republican if the right candidate came around.

Pretty much what she said. I will add that in addition to Republicans needing to get their act together, it's been proven that Americans tend to get tired of the same leadership after two terms. The media is a tremendous (and often detrimental) factor in why. Lord knows Clinton was the best president this country has seen in the last half century but even they got tired of him and favored Dubuya more than Gore when it was time to elect a new president in 2000. People wanted something new, despite the fact that it wasn't the best thing for them in general.....which was eventually proven right.
Hell, I might vote Republican if the right candidate came around.
This I don't agree with. I will NEVER, EVER vote Republican. Ever. I will write in a candidate before I vote Republican.

Eight years of any party holding office makes the country vulnerable (or susceptible) to going in the opposite direction....just for the sake of change....but it's not a given. It all depends on how well the 2nd term of the incumbent goes and who runs after him.
