    But yeah, the upcoming Presidents' Day is bogus. I mean, why not Governors' Day on the state level? blank stare @ you

    We don't get off on Columbus day but I think some places do. It is called "Dia de la Raza" here, commemorating when the day the races met and the white one decimated the native one by enslaving them and bringing them new diseases. I'm sure a lot of Native 'Americans' love that holiday.

    I believe President's Day (Feb 18) was originally meant to be a consolidation of Washington's birthday (Feb 22) and Lincoln's birthday (Feb 12), in a national holiday to honor both simultaneously. Since those two are generally considered to be the two greatest Presidents of all time, Presidents Day is a specific recognition of them, and not necessarily all US Presidents in general.

    i took an economics class that explain how they determined when to declare a holiday. almost all of them were to boost a lagging economy. once i realized that.. it kinda took the fun out of them lol
