Have you succumbed to the politically correct greeting of “Happy Holidays” at checkout lines, etc.? Or do you limit your greetings to “Merry Christmas”, “Happy Hanukah”, “Happy Kwanza” or what ever your affiliation might be?

Re: Speaking of The Holidays...
In talking to people out and about that I don't know, such as employees at the market, I actually try to use "Happy Holidays".
I have no way of knowing what the season means to them, so I find that term to cover everyone. But for freinds that I know celebrate Christmas, then it is "Merry Christmas" to them.

Re: Speaking of The Holidays...
Yeah, I live in a large multi-cultural metropolis. Probably a larger Jewish population than most places outside of Tel-Aviv. So, it is Happy Holidays if such an acknowledgement is warranted.
Personally, I don't get into the "Holiday Spirit." It has been known to be a marketing occassion for decades now, even calling the day after Thanksgiving "Black Friday" to see how the merchants are doing.
For the Christians, ask this: "What would Jesus do?"
(Remember him thrashing the money-lenders in Temple and turning over their tables)
See what I mean? Best I keep my mouth shut.

Have the "hap-hap happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tapdanced with Danny #*$(%king Kaye!"
"Screw you, it's Merry Christmas! What, your Catholic and your Protestant? Well Meerrrry Christmas! You're Jewish? Hang on. Hhhappy Hanukhhhah! You're Atheist?....... Have a nice day!"
But seriously, I say Merry Christmas. If you don't wanna be merry on December 25, then go ahead and be miserable. Saying Merry Christmas shouldn't offend anybody and if it does, they gotta grow up. If you know the person celebrates a particular holiday, fine, wish them a happy that instead. But if you don't know, you should be obligated to censor yourself.
Sure, I might give a Season Greetings card to somebody I don't know well. But for Christmas wishes, I wish Merry Christmas. Whether you accept the best wishes or not is your problem.

Re: Speaking of The Holidays...
Most of the time I say "Merry Christmas". I'll say whatever pertains to the person if I know they celebrate the holiday a different way. Side note: I used to work for this Jewish couple for about 3 years......every year that I've worked for them, they've always thrown the company a Christmas party. Free drinks and dinner all night. And gave Christmas bonuses. And we were all in there taking pictures with the little Christmas trees and decorations and the whole nine. Now, of course, I know they hardly celebrated any kind of "Christmas". Interesting how people can put certain things aside when it comes to their business. More folks should do the same.

No I say Merry Xmas because it's the most common holiday. If somebody I say it to don't celebrate Xmas then they can say so and I'll say "Happy Whatever" but I'm not gonna go out of my way to consider everything cause there's just way too many specialty holidays, but most people do Xmas.

Re: Speaking of The Holidays...
Sorry, just couldn't resist! xD But yeah, Walter FTW! xD Christmas is what most of this hooplah is about anyway. I'm wishing people a Merry Christmas. They shouldn't be complaining that I didn't give them best wishes for a different day. Leave it to modern America to nitpick about what day people are wishing them to have Merry. xDSupernova wrote:

Re: Speaking of The Holidays...
I say Merry Christmas, unless I know for a fact that they *don't* celebrate it.

Re: Speaking of The Holidays...
I just say happy holidays to not assume anything. I don't wanna be corrected and hear how you don't celebrate Christmas. Not that I think everybody needs to celebrate Christmas, I just don't care. lol
So happy holidays everyone!
