I HATE IT! I came home today and found my mom on my computer because hers is old and acts funny, but for whatever she refuses to junk it and buy a new one. Errrrr! My computer is for me and only me!

OMG, we were just talking about this here tonight. I am the same way. I can't stand it at all. It drives me batty. We have a close friend who has no qualms about jumping on the computer when he is here. So, I have it all password protected now, so he can't just go on it, and I have told my son to tell him that he doesn't know the password if I am ever not home when he is here.
Likewise, I do not like using any one's computer either.

When my parents are visiting, I don't mind, and occasionally I have a friend ask if she can check her e-mail. I remember one time, though, I had a friend over and she asked if she could check e-mail and then proceeded to update spend an hour on my computer working on her resume and on a term paper. I have NO idea what she wasn't using her own or why she bothered to come over, if she needed the paper due. I kept trying to hint strongly, without being rude, and she'd say 'just a minute". I finally told her I needed to meet someone and she'd have to leave. Needless to say, it was awhile before I invited her over again. She was pretty self-centred, though, and didn't think about anyone but herself.

That would have driven me nuts!
I am much less annoyed if they ask and it is for a quick thing.

I don't like it one bit to be honest. My PC is like my diary or personal planner. And since it's MINE and generally unshared, I don't go out of my way to secure personal items and information stored on it. I would really rather no one else touched it.

I actually have two computers. One a PC that sits in my den. Anyone can use that one, I don't care. The Mac in my bedroom, however, is for me – and only me. No one else is to touch it.

I sometimes pet sit for a couple of friends here, so I would be living/sleeping in their house for a week or so - which means I needed to have computer access. The gay male couple gave me the password so I could access IE. I didn't go anywhere but the internet on their computer but once I downloaded a JPG of a cute boy (legal age) and didn't clean it off when I left. Luckily they understood.
My female co-worker let me use her laptop for the internet while watching her dog and when I opened "My Pictures" to retrieve a download, found Boudoir pics of her teen daughter taken by her B/F. Just lingerie shots - probably private.
The most difficult was using my sister and brother-in-laws computers while at their home for 3 weeks. They are much less sexually diverse than I and they have a newer version of Windows that records ALL the sites you visit even if you bypass the address bar. But luckily it lets you delete them individually - so I had to go thru and delete certain regular sites every day. Hope I got them all.
It is strange being in someone else's computer. I live alone and my computer is private. The only other person to go on it will likely be after I kick - and I assigned my youngest grandson to clean it out (my daughter couldn't handle it). My external hard drive has gigabytes of porn on it - he can delete if he wants or keep it, but it is mostly gay male. Oh, he is also supposed to access a list of my forum boards and passwords to logon and say goodbye to all my cyberfriends.

If someone is gonna use my computer, they need to ask me first....don't just welcome yourself to it.

Pretty much. Since I live alone though, I really don't have that problem.Marc™ wrote:If someone is gonna use my computer, they need to ask me first....don't just welcome yourself to it.

I'm really not comfortable with other people using, but I'll let them they just need to ask first. That part is mandatory. My computer is like my wallet. It's sacred and got a lot of person info. on it.
