How do you feel about a husband staying home, cooking, cleaning and taking care of the kids, while his wife works as the family's breadwinner?

Would you be willing to stay at home with the kids; get them off to school, picking them up, and making sure that your wife's dinner was done by the time she came home?

I'm more traditional so probably not. Plus, wives work do damn hard, and I can't cook! Razz

I think it would be fine if that works for that family.

I don't see anything wrong with it but it's not for me. Only because I'm selfish and spoiled. *I* want to be home with my kids.

Also, I know this isn't true in every situation but statistics show that when the mom works, she also still does more child care and housework than her husband did while he was working, that's in 2 parent's working households though, not with a SAHD. I don't think it's fair if a woman has to do 70% of the work or whatever, but to each their own!

I have a lot of friends whose husband's don't do their fair share, even though their wives work and I just don't understand it...

When my husband and I first got married he got laid off from his job and I was working and he got really depressed and slept all day, every day. I'd get home from work and he would still be in bed! I was doing everything myself and finally couldn't take it any more and I broke down crying and told him he had to do SOMETHING to not be so depressed so he ended up getting 2 part time jobs, one of which eventually turned into a full time job and he still works for the same company...But my point is, if it were me, I'd be afraid that my husband would do the same thing, get depressed and neglect his responsibilities because he NEEDS a pay check to feel okay about himself. Then he would not be happy, I would not be happy and it would just be an all around bad situation.

If that's what they want to do, let 'em rock out.

It can work for some couples, I'm sure, but I can't imagine being in a relationship where I'm the only breadwinner. We can take turns with the cooking, cleaning and kids, but he's going to work.

Not gonna lie... It rubs me the wrong way. If he's gonna be at home all day then I would rather it be because he WORKS out of the home. Not because I'm carrying his arse.

Even if he's doing the work of a traditional "homemaker"? Cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, running the errands, etc. But a woman can choose to stay home and do those things and it's OK? I don't ask housewives if they work. I ask if they work outside the home because unless she's like Peg Bundy I know she already works in it.

I'ma need my husband to earn a paycheck, real talk. I can stay home and be a housewife and mother, or I can go to work so we can be a 2 income family. But any and all scenarios involve him working. If he's at home unemployed then he for damn sure betta be actively looking for a job. No house husbands over this way.

I have no problem with it esp. if it's the woman who's earning more. I dated one guy who told me on the second date he wanted a traditional wife who would stay home and look after the kids and let him make all of the decisions. I mentioned that many families have to have two working parents nowadays and he said that when the children were in school, then I could work part-time. I must have somehow missed a marriage proposal in there, as he didn't say "me wife" but said me specifically. I wish I'd been braver and told him that he might want to hire a domestic servant who will follow his orders and that his idea of "equal" isn't what most people consider equal. I don't mind staying home with the kids, but I would like to to be something my husband asks me about, not something he orders me to do.
