Hypothetically, you become sick and the doctor gives you a pill. The pill removes the discomforts of the illness but does not make you any healthier, would you take the pill?

I think anything can can remove discomfort or suffering would be a good thing.

I'd rather take that pill than one that has worse side effects than what it was prescribed to treat.

I am so averse to taking meds that I can't believe I'm the same guy who took anything from a hippies hand and dropped it.
Anyhow, I take Ibuprophen for pain, but usually only at nite so I can sleep. If the pain is tolerable during the day I forego the analgesic so I can assess how bad off I really am.
