It's about fucking time this anachronism came into the modern world.
Of course it is a grass-roots effort of local chapters. They are constantly getting their troops kicked out of public venues like schools and community centers which have to subscribe to modern non-discrimination laws.
I like the one they mentioned from Maryland that momentarily had a non-discrimination policy that included sex-orientation and religion. They still won't be in favor of modern laws until they quit discriminating against atheists as well. It was the Baltimore Area Council that wouldn't let me be an Assistant Scout Master because I did not have a religion. The Scout Master almost quit over that but we compromised with me just wearing a uniform and not having the credentials.
Ironically, Sir Baden-Powell who started the Boy Scouts was likely gay, as many military men of the British Empire were. It allowed them foreign duty to escape the Victorian mindset of England.

I hope the troops adopt this as a whole. It makes me so very, very sad that a parent would look at her son and say, "No way will my son be near a gay troop leader." Ugh, makes me feel sad just typing it.

I never understood the "you are gay so you must be a pedophile" concept. When I worked at JCPenny, I had a mother with her son (maybe 9 or ten) come in to buy a suit. I worked in the dress shirt and tie dept next to the suits--that was a commission job and not my job at all. When the mother realized that the salesmen was gay, she asked me to measure his inseam and then do the suit fitting. I could not believe i was hearing this. I tried to explain to her that the boy would be more comfortable with a man than a woman. She insisted, "I'm not having THAT kind of man touch my son". I told her to go buy her suit someplace else then LOL i expected a reprimand, but it never came.
