Ugh, those people who always have it worse...

I am really getting fed up with people who always have it worse. You know what I mean...you tell them you have a cold and they reply with, "At least it's just a cold...I have x,y,z and have for months..."

Catching up with a friend today, I mentioned that we are trying to decide if we should spend money on a certain weekend away. She replied, "Well, I just had to make payment arrangements on the phone bill and our mortgage."

Why do people do that??

That desire to 1-up the person they're talking to so that they can be the center of attention. You tell them your phone bill was $100 this month, they respond...."that's nothing, my bill was $250, Sprint turned it off and I had to pay a $50 reactivation charge." Alright bitch, you win.

I don't know...I don't get it but maybe they are trying to make you feel better if you're complaining? But if you're just talking about a getaway...that doesn't seem like the right answer.

I think it's just there are some people who have to be the center of the universe or the biggest victim. You can cut yourself slicing onions & they'll see your 3 stitches & raise you a sprained ankle & a urinary tract infection. You find out real quick who they are & if possible avoid them like the plague. Which they will probably have at some point.

TPP, this particular situation was not like that, as she is the type who always has it worse. Our conversation before this one was her telling me that she spent $200 at a craft show, then said, "It must be nice to have money..." when I told her that I bought some certain scrapbooking items.

Yeah...it probably seems strange that I maintain the friendship. But when we go to do things together, we really do have a good time. There is an aspect to her humor (when she employs it) that I totally get and so we have a good time.

I had a friend who ALWAYS had to one-up you no matter what it was. If I said I went to a dance camp and danced 7 hours a day, she'd say she went to one and danced 8 She was SO petty and it I finally ended the friendship as all she did was take, take, take and it was always all about her. She went through friends the way most people go through underwear. She'd emotionally exhaust one group with her selfishness and need to always one-up you and her total lack of concern for ANYONE but herself and the way she always put others down to make herself look better. When I look back, though, what I mostly see is how pathetic and shallow she is.

Ew! That is really annoying. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but stuff like that is hard to find a reason why they would think that would be okay, lol.
