Are you for or against pets being injected with GPS tracking in case they're lost? I think so long as it doesnt have any side effects, I'd do it. I had a dog that got away from home when I was a kid and talk about sad.

^^I was going to ask the same thing about a collar. At least for a "mutt". If you own expensive show dogs that could be stolen, eh. Do they even have something that can be injected or even implanted surgically?

I don't think we'd ever do that, we have a dog and a cat and the dog's run away before years ago and we always found him.

Re: Pets Injected With GPS tracking
If I remember right it's about the size of a grain of rice. They can locate the animal fairly fast. There are some really bad people out there who steal animals or look for strays to use for training bigger dogs for fighting. I haven't had it done for mine yet, mainly because they're all inside pets. But I can see the value if the dog is an "outside dog" or the cat is allowed to roam.

How Are Animals Implanted With Tracking Devices?

Veterinarians can implant tiny transponders called tracking microchips under an animal's skin to identify it. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommends microchips to ensure a lost pet's return if a shelter finds it.
Microchips for Animals
1. About the size of a grain of rice, a microchip uses radio waves to transmit information about your pet, including its unique registration number and registry phone number. Animal shelter employees use a universal handheld scanner check all pets found for microchips. They then contact the registry to obtain your contact information.
Microchip Implantation
2. Using a specially designed needle, a veterinarian implants a microchip just under the skin of an animal, between the shoulder blades, according to Vetinfo. This quick procedure causes little discomfort to the animal; it is no more complicated than receiving a vaccine.
Considerations
3. Unlike collars which can fall off, microchips provide a permanent and reliable way to identify your pet, but only if the microchip's registry has your most current contact information. To register your pet or to update your address and phone number, call the number provided in the paperwork from the veterinarian who implanted your pet's chip.

Not thrilled with the idea. If they start doing this with pets, it will only be a matter of time before they do it to humans as well. Reminds me of those mind controlling devices that government and weirdo scientists implants in people heads in Sci-Fi films.

Re: Pets Injected With GPS tracking
I don't think it is cruel. But I don't think it wards off theft. It only helps if your pet is lost without a tag, then the pet can be scanned to produce all of your information.
